TOP Australian Kids & Baby Names 2016 (5)

Some names were surprises because they ranked so high, others were surprises because they ranked so low. And it’s only been a few years since I last searched for a name for my child!

I was personally surprised to find some of the names on the top list. I have never come across anyone with some of the top names. Others, I would have thought that they were too old school. Apparently, these traditional names are making a comeback! That’s pretty cool.

Here are the Top 10 Surprised To Find Ranking So High Names, from the Hippo Blue National Name Day event (April – May 2016).

On the other hand, I was surprised to see some names so low on the list. I thought some names were classic, perennial favourites (David, anyone?). Others, I have met so many in the last few years, I was so sure they would be in the Top 10. Maybe some of these names have become popular in just the last few years. Given that our count usually includes kids up to 10 years old, it is possible that the names that have become popular in just the last few years rank low (Ava, for example).

Here are the Top 10 Surprised To Find Ranking So Low Names, from the Hippo Blue National Name Day event (April – May 2016).
